Dubai Scholars Hockey Team has always excelled at the Cambridge Interschool Hockey Tournament. This year was no different. Under the guidance and training of Ms. Lorenta, the DS Hockey Teacher, 6 teams took on the challenge which had its fair shares of highs and lows.
For the first time, Dubai Scholars took only 6 teams, one for each category, rather than the normal 10-12 teams. This year’s process was determined by various factors. Being a student in the team, it was a complete breathtaking experience and more than that a precious privilege. |
The tournament kicked off on the 9th of March. All of the students were dressed in their team jerseys and left school at 6:30am and that’s when their journey began… the singing, chatting and eating were just ways to avoid the nerves during the bus ride, but the nerve wrecking situations ended upon our entry into the Cambridge High School, Abu Dhabi. The DS Hockey teams were ready to conquer the tournament and that’s exactly what we did!
The Open Category Girls and Boys faced brutal challenges, injuries which took down their best players, injuries which tested every ounce of their energy to comeback but nonetheless their strong dedication and commitment towards their team made them return and end up on the winning side. The girls open category came First Place and the boys who tied their Final match, managed to bag first runners up position after they filed to win the tie breaker.
Under 12 boys and Under 12 girls were unbeatable. The way they played the game at an age this young, was truly inspirational. Their love for the game was highly evident on the field as they both occupied first place.
Under 14 girls, who emerged victorious were put through several trials and yet managed to come first. They played with true sportsmanship and the right attitude of true athletes.
However much, the Under 14 boys tried and trained but fell short of the victory. This evoked a variety of sentiments, but they managed to play with great dedication and full of spirit which was truly tested.

I would like to conclude by thanking the PE Department and specially Ms. Lorenta who trained us and supported us, she didn’t give up on us and picked us up when we were weak and encouraged us to do our best and make us win. I am thankful of the great learning experience of sportsman spirit I am taking back with me, this has indeed been a great privilege and I would look forward to greater opportunities ahead of us!
